The Community Center

In March 2014, I will be moving to Saltillo, Mexico in order to help start a Community Center with Christian Relief Fund.

The goal is for this center to be a safe place for children and families to gather. We want the atmosphere to be empowering. We want the kids and their families to feel heard, loved and supported. 

Our plan is to start by providing the following activities/resources:

• One on one tutoring for the children
• Extra-curricular activities (music, art, computer classes, as well as, sports camps)
• English lessons with a Bible story
• Education program for the parents
• Life Skills for the parents
• Counseling
• Food Pantry 

As the Center continues to grow, we will add more programs as opportunities arise. 

There has been a sponsorship program in Saltillo, Mexico through the organization Bread for A Hungry World (which is now Christian Relief Fund) for more than 4 years. Right now there are more than 60 children in the program. The children in the program are currently being provided with school uniforms, school supplies, school fees and food four times a year. Without this program many of the families would not be able to afford  to send their children to school. 

However, more needs to be done in order to support the neighborhood that we work with. More and more of the kids in the program are dropping out of school. There are several who are having trouble learning to read. Jobs are sparse and many of the mothers feel frustrated and helpless. 

This is an exciting venture that has the potential to change many lives! God has already been laying the foundation and opening many doors for this project to begin. I feel extremely humbled and blessed to be apart of this exciting mission.
